Burke Guest House
ARCHITECT: Karin Patriquin
PROJECT GOALS: The owners, a wine collector, and avid sportswoman respectively, wanted a place to entertain guests and extended family, to house a budding wine collection and to occasionaly host charity events. Their property in Madison, CT, allowed a second structure, with certain height and bulk restrictions.
RESULTS: This guest house overlooking the pool, takes its inspiration from the original house, while bringing a waterfront airiness to the interior. The main floor welcomes visitors to an open space large enough for a family gathering, 2 separate groupings of seated guests, or a group of wine-tasters. A kitchenette, bathroom and bedroom here make this a fully functional guest suite. A lower floor houses a family room and gallery, a second bedroom and the wine cellar.
